What the service is
We publish measurements of how options were priced before company earnings reports and what the underlying stock then did, together with our own predictions about implied volatility and a public record of how those predictions scored. Everything is computed from licensed market data by the formulas set out on our methodology page.
Not investment advice
Nothing on this service is investment advice, a recommendation, or a solicitation to buy or sell anything. We do not know your circumstances and we do not take them into account. We publish no forecast of any stock’s direction; the single forward-looking number we publish is a prediction about implied volatility, and we publish how well it has scored. Trading options can lose you more than you put in. Decisions you take using this service are yours.
Data, delay and accuracy
Market data is licensed from third-party providers and is delayed. We publish measurements derived from it rather than raw feeds, along with our method and our error record, so that our accuracy can be checked. The numbers are provided as they are, without a warranty that they are complete, correct or fit for any particular purpose. If you spot something wrong, tell us: every company’s history page has a “Report a data issue” link, or you can email us.
Accounts
- You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher.
- You need an email address; we do not ask for a password. Signing in sends a one-time link to that address, so keeping access to the inbox is what keeps access to the account.
- One account is for one person. API keys are issued to an account and must not be shared.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account and for the keys you issue from it.
Paid plans, billing and cancellation
- Two plans: $29/mo and $290/yr, in US dollars. A paid plan adds the forward board, CSV export and API access; everything else is free with an account.
- Payments are taken by Stripe, who handle the card details. We never see or store a card number.
- Plans renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account page.
- Cancelling stops the next payment. Your access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for; we do not pro-rate a part-used period.
- Refunds: if the service is not what you expected, email us within 1 day of your first payment on a plan and we will refund that payment in full.
- If we change the price of a plan, the change applies from your next renewal and we will tell you before it takes effect. It never applies to a period you have already paid for.
Fair use of the data
Our own licences let us publish what you see here; they do not let us hand the underlying market data on wholesale. You may use the numbers in your own research, spreadsheets and trading, and quote or cite them with attribution. Do not systematically scrape, mirror or resell the data as a feed, and do not use the API to rebuild a competing dataset. The API is rate-limited per key, and we may suspend a key or an account that is being used this way.
Who owns what
The site, its text and charts, the method and the measurements we compute belong to us or to the providers we license data from. Using the service gives you a personal, non-transferable right to use them as these terms allow, and nothing more. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything for them.
Availability
We do not promise the service is always available. It depends on third-party data providers and infrastructure, and it will occasionally be down, stale or incomplete. When the data is stale, the page says so. There is no uptime guarantee on any plan.
Ending the agreement
You can stop using the service at any time, and we will delete your account when you ask. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, and where the breach is not deliberate we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix it. If we close a paid account for a reason that is not your breach, we refund the unused part of the period.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of this service is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for trading losses, lost profits, or decisions taken on the basis of anything published here.
If you are a consumer, the law where you live may give you rights that a contract cannot exclude. These terms do not try to exclude them, and where anything here conflicts with those rights, they win.
Claims caused by your use
If someone brings a claim against us because of how you used the service, or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover the reasonable cost of dealing with it, including legal fees. This does not apply to anything we caused ourselves.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. Material changes will be announced to account holders by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means the new terms apply.
General
- These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.
- If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, that part is limited as little as possible and the rest still applies.
- If we do not enforce a term straight away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
- You may not transfer your account or these terms to someone else. We may transfer them to a company that takes over the service, and these terms will still protect you.
- We are not responsible for a delay or failure caused by something outside our reasonable control, such as an outage at a data provider or a hosting company.
